What is a citation?
MLA Style
So now you know why citing sources is important, but what actually is a citation? A citation is simply an acknowlegement of the source of information or ideas used. It includes specific items about the source, such as author and title, and all of the pieces of information about the source are in a specific order, which varies slightly depending on the citation style used.
In this course, we will use a slightly modified MLA style. The modification is that all of your citations for electronic citations are required to include the URL at the end.
Why is style, or format, important?
Using a consistent format allows readers to quickly find the information they need without the citation taking up too much space. Without a defined order, it could be difficult to tell if a referenced source was a book authored by Steve Jobs or a biography of his life.
