Prior to the opening of the Methodist Church at The Narrows, there had been an organization of a Methodist Church, holding services in the Narrows Baptist Church. The list of members was kept at Whites Cove where the parsonage or Mission House, as it was called then was situated. The first recorded membership list was in 1875.
The present church, situated near the banks of the beautiful Washademoak Lake in the village of Cambridge-Narrows, was built by Philip White. The church was opened for service in 1892, but only the vestry in the basement was finished for use at that time. In 1898, the value of the church and organ was $800.00 with a seating of 200.
In 1929, it was moved that Youngs Cove Church give up one monthly morning service and Whites Cove Church give up one afternoon service to give the Narrows two services a month. That same year, a young and energetic Minister, Rev. Harold Rowley, came to the charge and urged the members to finish the upstairs. In 1931, lumber was purchased, and with hired and volunteer workers, the interior was finished. The seats, pulpit, stove and stove pipe were obtained from the Baptist Church in West Scotch Settlement. The dedication service was held on October 11, 1931.
Rev . Rowley also encouraged the organization of a Ladies Aid. This group sewed, quilted, held suppers and teas to raise funds. In the fall of 1944, the debt of $300.00 was paid off.
Over the years, the church has been painted inside and out, until 1997, when the church was lowered onto a cement basement, with new windows and siding installed. In 2002, the Turnbull parlour was added containing a washroom, small kitchenette and room for a Sunday school and meeting area. This has also given the congregation a place to socialize after church.
